Fervr announces major changes

Posted on 4th Aug 2011

Thank you from Fervr!

All of us here at Fervr are so grateful to God that you have been using the site! Our growing network means more like-minded Christians can share in the blessings of solid biblical encouragement for Christian teens and young people. We’ve spent the last year listening to you, and collecting all your feedback and suggestions on how we can be more useful for youth ministries. As a result of your feedback, we are announcing some major changes that will take effect on Saturday August 13th.

New features coming soon

A huge number of Fervr members have requested more content resources such as free youth group programs, ideas and devotionals for youth. This is something we’ve wanted to provide for a long time too, so it is a core objective of 2012 to rapidly increase these resources. We are also ushering in other new features you can look forward to, including:

  • A vastly improved, easy-to-read design and layout for Fervr Content
  • Fervr members can become ‘friends’ with other Fervr members (without being in the same group)
  • Fervr members can post status updates on their own profile
  • Fervr members can see what articles other members are commenting on
  • Fervr members can get reminders when it’s their friend’s birthday

Fervr groups to be phased out

We’ve been surprised (and a little saddened) at the declining usage of Fervr Groups over the past year. However, we’ve been encouraged to see the increasing higher quality of youth group websites that have been set up using free tools such as Wordpress and Tumblr. This is also something we’ve wanted to see: Christians getting better equipped to use technology to serve the Body of Christ.

As a result of these conversations, much prayer, and evaluating where we put our resources, Fervr is phasing out Fervr Groups to focus on what we do best: great practical theological content for youth. As with all our changes, this will take effect on Saturday the 13th of August.

Some groups will remain active

Only the Fervr Groups that have been active in the past 3 months will be set up with a fresh account on the new Fervr. It will not be possible to create any new groups after the transition date.

(Please note that all previous posts, photos, files or pages will be discarded so we suggest moving your content somewhere else if you’d like to keep it). Inactive Fervr Groups will not be preserved in this process.

So if you are one of the Fervr Groups that will be kept active, this is a summary of the changes you will experience:

  • No new groups can be created, though existing groups can carry on discussions
  • No photo/ file storage
  • No pages

A great tool we’re recommending in place of Fervr Groups is Group Spaces. They have all the same functionality of Fervr Groups, plus even more.
